CORPUS MORTALE - a new species of deviant

Corpus Mortale was founded in early 1993 by Nicholas Maschøln(drums) and
Søren Jensen(guitar). After some line-up changes Martin Rosendahl(vocals
& bass) joined in Spring 1994. At the time the band was kind of a hobby band,
nevertheless, a demo-tape was recorded in May 1995. The tape received positive
reactions in the underground press, and the band went on with more serious intentions!
After playing a couple of shows, the band recruited a fourth member. Morten Jensen
joined the band early in 1996. Only three months later the band went to the studio,
to record their second demo, the mcd "Integration". This time the band
got even better recognition, and the full pressing of 800 copies was sold out
in 7 months.

The following years (1997-1999) was spent playing shows both in Denmark and Germany,
and composing new material. Søren and Morten grew tired of Corpus Mortale,
and after the crashed album attempt "Spiritism", they decided to leave!
While searching for replacements, Martin and Nicholas continued to write new songs,
and when Brian Eriksen (guitar & vocals) and Jens Lee (guitar) joined in September,
it didn´t take long before the band was ready for the recording of their
final official demo. The mcd "Succumb To The Superior" was recorded
and released, and once again the critics were overwhelming! Loads of good reviews,
interviews and a couple of (unfortunately bad!?!) contract offers.

In the summer of 2001 Jens Lee left the band due to lack of time and dedication.
Just a few months later Roar Christoffersen (guitar) joins in and in December
the label-only "Sombre And Vile"mcd, was conceived! Once more, only
bad contract offers occurred!

In the summer of 2003 Brian was no longer into playing metal no more, he left
a few months later. The year of 2003 was spent shopping the album "With Lewd
Demeanor"! A couple of quite interesting offers slipped right through, but
in the end… in October 2003 the bands signed a contract with Dutch label
Neurotic Records ! The album was released on 23rd of November, just 10 days after
the band had returned from a 12 date European tour.

for the first time in North America through the Willowtip/Neurotic
records partnership. The album comprises 9 tracks of crushing dark
death metal, with more than a few surprises in store. The culmination
of 2 years of writing, 'Of Fracture...' brings new meaning to the
phrase 'linear song-writing', mixing pure rhythmic and dissonant
extremity with an unnerving sense of melody and atmosphere...

VISCERAL BLEEDING - absorbing the disarray

Willowtip/Neurotic

Founded in the late nineties by Peter Persson on Guitar and Niklas
Dewerud behind the Drums to perform what they thought was lacking in
the Swedish death scene. A mixture of raw brutality and technical
skill. With Calle Löfgren on Bass, Dennis Röndum on vocals and Marcus
Nilsson joining in as a solo guitarist they had found the right mixture
to play their extreme metal. The first demo "Internal decomposition"
was recorded at studio Moonshine fall 2000 and received only good
reviews. Chris at Retribute Records picked up on this and decided to
sign the band and release a full-length album with Visceral Bleeding.
The album was called Remnants of Deprivation and was recorded during
three weeks of Nov-Dec 2001 in Pama Studio in Kristianopel and Salt
Island studio in Karlskrona and was released in March 2002. Shortly
after the CD was recorded Niklas unfortunately had to depart from the
band. He didn't feel he had the time and commitment it took to continue
as drummer and wanted to dedicate his time and full attention to job as
bass player in Spawn of Possession.

Tobias "Rottenboy" Persson joined in as drummer shortly after Niklas
departure. After trying out for a wile V.B. decided to take him in as a
permanent member and there by making Visceral Bleeding a complete band
once again.

Remnants of Deprivation received great response from all over
the world and the reviews were overwhelming. Visceral Bleeding was at
this time picked up by Record label Neurotic Records and immediately
started to write, arrange and complete songs for what was going to be
the album "Transcend into Ferocity". Recorded, mixed and mastered by
Visceral Bleeding and Robert Ahrling in studio Flat-pig - Malmö/Sweden
during 3 weeks of Dec-Jan. Released through Neurotic Records in May
2004.

Once again the reviews were overwhelming and Transcend into
Ferocity made sure to establish Visceral Bleeding as one of the most
extreme death metal bands out there.
Following the release, Dennis Röndum decided he could not continue
focusing on two bands without one of them being left behind. Realizing
he could not give 100% to both, he decided to leave Visceral Bleeding
to focus on his main obsession - extreme drumming in one of the most
extreme bands ever to play Death metal: Spawn of Possession.

A replacement was found in Martin Pedersen who immediately
joined in and gave the band a breath of fresh air with his 120%
commitment, ambition and focus on the one goal: to further establish
the name Visceral Bleeding in the scene of extreme death metal.

Touring all across Europe as support band to Re-united
Obituary and as main support to Death metal legends Deicide made sure
to spread the madness and create a devoted fan base. To further
strengthen their position in the genre, the band also did a headlining
tour throughout the UK during spring 2005.

During writing process of album number three Absorbing the
Disarray, lead guitarist Marcus Nilsson decided to take a step back
from the scene and in his place Martin "Germ" Bermheden was introduced
to the band. The album was recorded in June 2006, once again using
Studio FlatPig with Robert Ahrling as technician/producer.

Directly following the recording Calle got married and had a
daughter, he therefore had to take a step back from the band for a
undetermined amount of time, filling his shoes in the band and helping
out with the recording of Absorbing the Disarray was Martin “Body”
Eklöv.

Visceral Bleeding kicked of the new line-up and Album release
with a five week European tour with Skinless / Cryptopsy directly
followed by a four week European tour with Deicide.

DISAVOWED - stagnated existence

Willowtip/Neurotic

Inspired by bands like Suffocation, Pyrexia, Vader and Dying Fetus,
Disavowed was formed in 2000 from the remnants of Nocturnal Silence.
With the goal to write music that is brutal, yet well structured,
technical and catchy, 3 songs were written and recorded soon after
Disavowed formed. The demo CD entitled ‘Point of Few’ resulted in good
responses from all over the deathmetal scene and finally led to a
recording agreement with the American label Unique Leader Records.
In 2001 the first full length CD entitled ‘Perceptive Deception’ was
released, followed by a 5-week tour in the United States and Canada in
2002 and a 4-week European tour in 2003. After a long period of wrist
injuries of the drummer, Robbe V, a temporary replacement was found in
Dirk Janssen of German death metal band Despondency in mid 2005. After
doing numerous regional shows Disavowed headed to Japan for their first
time ever in April 2006.
After that Disavowed, who found a new permanent drummer in Romain
Goulon, performed on several festivals such as Brutal Assault (CZ) and
Mountains Of Death (CH). Soon after the band started to record their
sophomore album entitled "Stagnated Existence" which is scheduled for a
late winter/early spring release through Neurotic Records. The new
album will show the growth of Disavowed musically, without compromising
brutality and aggressiveness.

SICKENING HORROR - when landscapes bled backwards

The first release from Willowtip/Neurotic...

The band was formed on January 2002 by George Antipatis (guitars,
vocals), Ilias Daras (bass) and George Kollias (drums, Nightfall).
After a very short time the band started completing its first songs
which were floating around technical Death Metal forms in the likes of
Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Death and Atheist. After a
year-and-a-half of non-stop rehearsing and killer live shows, the band
recorded the demo “Promo 2003” in the Fall of 2003 which received great
reviews worldwide for its innovative and precise sound. At the time,
the band had George Bokos (Rotting Christ/ex-Nightfall) on the second
guitar, who left after a while due to increased obligations. In the
summer of 2004 George Kollias joined the US death metal band Nile and
recorded “Annihilation of the Wicked” album. By 2005 Sickening Horror
had completed the song-writing of their first album. Meanwhile the
band’s influences had expanded in a wide spectrum which included
experimental black metal bands like Ved Buens Ende, Dodheimsgard, Virus
and jazz-fusion artists like Charlie Parker, Dave Weckl, Virgil Donati.
All these elements filtered by their unique “Sickening Horror” point of
view, in a Death Metal basis, plus many industrial samples and loops
created what is now called “When Landscapes Bled Backwards”. The band’s
debut album was recorded in Athens and mixed by mastermind Neil Kernon.
As for the lyrics, they have to do with quite simple – often personal –
subjects, regarded from a completely strange and surrealistic aspect.
Eventually the band reached to an agreement with Neurotic Records to
unleash “When Landscapes Bled Backwards” in Spring 2007 and everyone
involved in this recording has very high expectations, as the album’s
sound is really fresh and has a vast variety of the deepest, strongest
and darkest emotions..

to marry the insectoid riffing of modern technical death metal with
mutant starfish rhythms that swell and contract like reptilian
break-dancing on a hijacked pirate cruise ship. Having no patience for
a vocalist, these self-proclaimed titans of progressive instrumental
thrash metal dedicate themselves to the exploration and deconstruction
of harmonious, romantic melody, slippery squid stringwork, and
swashbuckling grooves. Inspired by the sprawling rhythmic tension of
early Metallica and the nimble-witted punchline hijinx of Lethargy and
Ripping Corpse, Gr etzky embodies the sound of three riff
assassins embarking on an intergalactic adventure showered with bacon
sizzling blastbeats, latin hulahoop shake-downs, and a seemingly
never-ending supply of supersonic titanium chestnut rhythms. A total
lunar eclipse of snake-charming riffs from the planet's mightiest

Fronted by guitarist Erik Burke, one of the true godfathers of technical metal and mastermind behind zany carnival-grinders Lethargy, Sulaco fuels its fractured, inverted rhythms with a twittering riffing style that squirms and tinkles like an orchestra of deranged dolphins in heat, squealing and writhing rabidly between volcanic bass thrusts and runaway blast-beat crescendos. Tetris-defeating rhythms, violent flurries of spitfire blast-beats, exotic,
pyramid-melting leads, and infectious vocal lacerations. These elements combine
to create an original, fluid songwriting style that actually means something and
isn't afraid to flirt with some seriously skullcrushing slap-dash grooves. These
men were the spearheads behind the scene that spawned HUMAN REMAINS, DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, and BURNT BY THE SUN, and Knives of Ice proves to be more relevant
and ambitious than ever.

Featuring the 13-minute title track originally composed as a score for NYC's Ballet Deviare , A Diamond For Disease
is an ultimate magnum opus of epic melodic death metal that explores
layer upon layer of romantic lead guitar that effortlessly manages to
swim and dart between spidery mazes of mutating rhythms that recall the
very best of ...And Justice For All and Heartwork.
This is by far the band's most advanced material to date as it was
written from a standpoint of orchestral-like complexity, and as such,
embraces a painstaking degree of detail in both harmony arrangement and
melodic counterpoint. Look no further… A Diamond For Disease is an absolute swirling vortex of symphonic riff-o-rama destined to be 2005’s most powerful sonic orgasm.

KALIBAS - Enthusiastic Corruption of the Common Good

Surging and swelling like a teenage brain tumor going through puberty, alchemetalists Kalibas rise out from the entangling clutches of Rochester’s gutter and infects the listening public with their most eccentric yet mature musical statement to date, Enthusiastic Corruption Of The Common Good. Flirting equally with puncturing pirate melody and caustic discordance over the course of the EP’s five songs, twin guitars nurture a tremendously technical and distinct spirographic style of stress-addled riffery set to boggle and toggle the controls for the heart of the sun. Featuring an updated lineup, Kalibas has shed the more overt and haphazard "grind" influence apparent on their first full-length, Product Of Hard Living, in favor of superimposed layering and orchestrated maze-like mantras of melody --- techniques which have more in common with recent Gorguts and labelmates Rune as opposed to the gamut of one-dimensional death/grind acts polluting unenlightened eardrums. These five "lessons" seem to romantically crawl down the back of one's neck and settle at the base of the skull, expanding and contracting like an undecided erection patiently waiting to discharge its payload. Enthusiastic Corruption Of The Common Good is a zigzagging showcase of Bermuda triangle mysticism and clown juggling dexterity laughing in your ears, reminding you of the boisterous tickle of shimmering dolphin squeals or of toy soldiers burrowing in your brain matter, obtrusively poking and prodding with their lead bayonets. Integrated, organized, starry-eyed, and misty care of Tinkerbell’s sprinkles of pixie dust, the brazen Kalibas have become a clover-leafed magic metal band able to transcend any of the restrictive trappings of extreme music’s subgenres, consequently setting them head and shoulders above their contemporaries.

Goatsblood’s Drull is music to be seen through rat’s eyes, to be heard through the cracks of sewer lids in your most drug-addled neighborhood. These Canadian juggernauts of bloated, blackened sludge have stirred their cauldron of creativity summoning nine new hymns of tortured, tyrannical trudgery akin to vintage Melvins, Eyehategod, and Burning Witch. At their slowest, most oppressive and ominous, Goatblood feels like a rusty corkscrew gradually being coiled up your urethra. At their most harmonious and chord-broken, Goatsblood is the toothpick-in-mouth Southern Cross outlaw walking behind the rows with the blackbird perched on his left shoulder. Like slurping sweet molasses off a popsicle stick, Drull’s insular hatred and detuned diabolical depression yields a cathartic, yet snide smile on the face of the listener. With production values handled by Mr. Steve Austin of Today Is The Day, rest assured that every morsel of bombastic nihilistic negativity Goatsblood spews is articulately captured. Drull leaves you feeling judged and violated, but you’ll love it because this is a soundtrack to expose the kicking and screaming victim in all of us. Not for the weak of heart, stomach, or soul…

Born and raised in a country whose metal bands shamelessly shoplift enough Iron Maiden to warrant musical plagiarism suits to be filed, Sweden’s Crowpath outshine the hamfisted hordes of hackneyed copycats with their debut masterpiece of abrasive anti-melody, Red On Chrome. The 13-track, 30-minute mammoth was recorded by Fredrik Reinedahl (In Flames, Burst, Gadget, Dimension Zero) and wields an absolute air of clarity and nucklebusting crunch rarely heard in a time of tin can production values. Fusing the drunken, staggered grooves of latter-day Coalesce with Immolation’s trance-inducing sense of rhythm and dynamics, Crowpath triumphs in carving out an album that extracts the most violent, technically-obsessed aspects from modern death metal and intrinsically filters them through the urgent unpredictability of grindcore.

CROTCHDUSTER - Big Fat Box of Shit

From the mastermind behind Capharnaum, Jason Suecof, comes Crotchduster. Quite simply unlike anything you have ever heard.

"Have you ever had listening experiences that have caused you to
undergo such a magnificent spiritual revelation? Okay, so I have those
every five minutes, but this time, THIS TIME, it's sincere and honest.
Trust me! Would I mislead you? (Don't answer that, it's rhetorical.)
Anyways this is the spiritual enlightenment of a lifetime! This is the
metal band to end all metal wars and crusades! This is THE band you
need to hear. This . . . is . . . Crotchduster?

THAT'S RIGHT! Crotchduster. To explain the history of this band
would take hours and ultimately perplex you so I'll take the liberty of
summing it up in two words: tax evasion. Don't worry if it doesn't make
sense to you now, just give it some time and it will slowly seep into
your puny little minds.

Not convinced just based on that information alone? Let's go
to the selling points. Are you one of those schmucks who hate
Suffoclones and every new melodic metalcore band that has no iota of
diversity in their music whatsoever? Well have no fear! Because
Crotchduster effectively pulls off the exhausting task of including
EVERY GENRE of music there is possible! You've got thrash, death metal,
power metal, glam! You've got vocoders! You've got Glen Danzig
impersonations! You've got Slayer covers! You have improvisational
jazz! All of this performed with such crafty musicianship that you
won't believe your very ears! Still not sold? You've even got a special
guest vocal appearance from RICHARD CHRISTY!!! STILL not sold??? THEY
HAVE A DOG AS A DRUMMER. You don't get much more BR00TAL than that,
man!

But why talk more about this than I have to? Just download the
MP3's from the website and get a taste of the supremacy that is
Crotchduster. This has already won my vote as album of the year. In
fact, this may very well win my vote as album of FOREVER! This is the
greatest metal album you will ever hear! Listen to Crotchduster or DIE!
Support Williamsburgland and buy plenty of Mammal Sauce! Buy this
album! Buy Buy Buy Buy Buy Buy Buy!!!

TEN MILLION FUCKING SKULLS. BAM!" - MetalJudgement.com

Commit Suicide have absolutely reinvented themselves. While their
debut album for Willowtip, Human Larvae [Earthly Cleansing] caused a
huge stir in the metal community, was regarded as one of 2002's best
releases, and was no slouch in terms of infectious songwriting and in
maintaining infinite intensity, it is on 2004's Synthetics that they've
truly transcended the often restrictive confines of the overpolluted
"deathgrind" subgenre. Armed with jumping jackrabbit fretboard
contractions, asymmetric percussion concussions, and deep-seeded vocal
punctuations, Synthetics showcases a reborn Commit Suicide engaged in
the most rigorous technical death metal workout around. This ain't no
vintage Napalm Death or Terrorizer; Commit Suicide is lock and loaded
into a songwriting regimen as fluid and clever as pioneering death
metal acts Suffocation and Gorguts. Engineered in Rochester, NY by Doug
White (Kalibas, Sulaco, Lethargy), Synthetics boasts a recording
quality so pristine and rarely seen in todays world of overtriggered
drums and vocal driven metal recordings. The instrumental skills aren't
the only aspects of the band's sound that have been refined. In terms
of arrangement ideas, the band is increasingly progressive, throwing in
unexpected left turns and long-winded guitar passages that seamlessly
interlace with drum patterns so erratic they'll make your wristwatch do
backflips. This ain't no clip-on tie, folks. It comes down to this: if
you're a fan of thinking man's death metal that pushes boundries and
*don't* buy this record, you might has well take the advice of the band
name.

Arsis' A Celebration of Guilt is the perfect marriage of shimmery snakecharming melody, efficient, jam-packed songwriting, and a harnessed virtuosity so infectious you’ll have to wear condoms over your eardrums to avoid its entrancing spell! Spreading its wings over and above the narrow confines of black metal, thrash, and death metal, Arsis has ripened a sound that owes as much to Dissection and recent Immortal as it does to Heartwork-era Carcass and the finger-cramping fretboard heroism of vintage Yngwie Malmsteen. Years have past and still these bands are considered to be the tops in the genre and few bands have ever come close to recording albums as great as the pioneers, UNTIL NOW. Eventuality is quite simply as good as progressive jazz infused death metal can get, and will prove to be a classic release. This is an album that any fan of forward thinking and progressive music cannot pass up.

HARAKIRI - Twilight of the Idols

God damn… Willowtip is just digging out all of the good death metal bands lately. It's no wonder a lot of other labels are mostly releasing total shit. This one's a real winner across the board. The music is fucking complete and total death metal just how it should be done: A sense of contemporary flare with old school roots, great changes (and tons of 'em), just the right amount of technicality, a wide range of tempos, solid musicianship and songwriting, and so on. And all of this compressed into songs that almost never stretch past the three-minute mark. The vocals are incredibly forceful low growls with some slightly higher screams on occasion. And if you want to talk contrast, take the fucking stellar "Hungry American" - one minute sounding not unlike early Deicide at their best, the next dropping a slick acoustic melody, then breaking into some chugging rhythms with fucked up time signatures and nice dual guitar interaction. Also evident on occasion are brief yet blazing solos, light instances of perfect dissonance, or carefully tucked away melodies. Fucking great stuff. The recording is awesome. I don't have any real complaints. The drums sound great and highlight a tight performance, the guitar tone is loud and heavy, but not messy, the bass tone is well defined and adds great low-end density, and the vocals are perfectly placed right at the heart of it. There are a few breaks where the bass takes control and it sounds fucking amazing, so I'd definitely like to hear the basslines take hold a little bit more, but it's not a big deal. This sounds better than most any death metal release that's come out on far larger labels lately. Also far above average are the lyrics, which encompass an intelligence almost unheard of within such genres. "The shirt of the nation is still stained with the gravy. A whole generation now knows no fear for life or prosperity. Awaiting a time, awaiting a chance to put their ass on the line. The loyal and vicious gather arms and begin to shine. Hunger pain in the homes of average men hails the twilight of altruism's orgies once again. Inspiration comes when looking out for number one…" The layout uses a minimal color scheme of browns with tons of metallic gold ink printed above. It can make the lyrics hard to read at certain angles, but it's worth it in the end because it looks slick. This is another one of the best death metal records I've heard in years, and it's the second of which coming compliments of Willowtip. Highly recommended. 9/10
