honing their trademark style, blending brutal death metal with elements of black

1 new tune from Crowpath, 3 for Submerged.

Crowpath are definitely one of the best bands around at the moment. The
Swedes' totally mangled tech death metal nightmares are as complex and
fierce as anything you'll dare to look for, but they somehow make it
listenable, tangible and song-based. "Thieves" however, foregoes speed
for a slower, more evilly brooding vibe, and it's just as effective, as
they proved before on "The Lycanthrope" from the "Son Of Sulphur"
album. Great riffs, sturdy drums that jam the odd trick in here and
there, and deathly roars. Score.
High On Fire x Disclose = Submerge according to Submerge, and I can see
where they're coming from. Heavy as hell, blown out distortion and
manic speed equals a good time, though compared to Crowpath, they're
not really doing anything to push the boundaries. Still great fun
though. -- Collective Zine.co.uk

 80's
thrash bands are still cherished by their longtime fans and many have
gone to be considered 'classics 'amongst a younger generation. Combine
that with many old-school bands reuniting or jamming with original
members, and it's easy to see why thrash metal is seeing such a
resurgence. Warbringer is one of the leaders of this revival and via
their EP, One By One The Wicked Fall, they have built an organic buzz

are countless Hellhammer demo bootlegs, but they all utterly fail to
capture the true "kvlt" aura, to represent the band as it actually was.
They have been compiled from dismal multi-generation copies of the
original tapes and they are invariably riddled with factual &
historical errors and/or lies. Demon Entrails is the first official
release of the legendary Hellhammer demos since the original limited
cassette editions in 1983. (2008) Track Listing: Disc 1: Intro /
Messiah / The Third Of The Storms / Buried And Forgotten / Maniac /
Eurynomos / Triumph Of Death / Revelations Of Doom/ Reaper / Satanic
Rites / Crucifiction / Outro // Disc 2: Crucifixion / Maniac / When
Hell's Near / Decapitator / Blood Insanity / Power Of Satan / Reaper /
Death Fiend / Triumph Of Death / Metallic Storm / Ready For Slaughter /
Dark Warriors / Hammerhead / Angels of Destruction / Bloody Pussies /
Chainsaw / Sweet Torment.

The music on the disc was recorded between 2001 and 2002 by

demos gained them considerable attention in the underground music scene

two notable record labels.

The two additional tracks found on this release are alternative studio
takes never before released. The CDrom video segment recorded April 12,
2003 at Pallette’s Outer Banks (Norfolk, VA) includes 3 classic Arsis
songs and a Mercyful Fate cover.

controversial one, probably more influential in successive years than
anyone would've imagined upon its release. Clearly their most death
metal-influenced work. Features drums by Gene Hoglan (Dark Angel,
Death, Strapping Young Lad). This 2007 reissue on Prosthetic features

BUTCHER ABC - butchered at birth day

BUTCHER ABC is a sick and demented band from Japan featuring ex-members
of CSSO and MAGGOTY CORPSE. Just one look at the cover artwork on this
mini CD and also the knowledge of what bands the guys were involved in
previously will give you a fine indication of the gore encrusted mess
you´re going to get yourself into here. Grinding, raw and chunky
guitars slice and dice while gutteral vocals vomit forth some rather
amusingly silly lyrics, just look at these: 'lucifer, my master takes a
shit in hell' and 'bullet of fart is embedded' for some examples.
Submerge yourself in this mid to fast paced crushing gore feast by
picking up 'Butchered At Birth Day' because you won´t regret it.
Interestingly enough I was thinking this band would fit very well with
the Razorback Records roster and sure enough that great label is
working with Obliteration Records and will release BUTCHER ABC´s full
length album in North America in 2005. I´m very impressed with the
sound of this Cd too because it´s really full and in your face but
plenty dirty and gritty at the same time. A must for all Grind and
gorey Death Metal fanatics !
TYRANT is a band that has been created for one purpose and one purpose
only: Reminding and how it was meant to be, creating a dark musical
outfit that for once does relate to their history unlike many young
pretenders nowadays.

Influenced by simplicity and ugliness, TYRANT go back to the roots
with a great dose of groove and rock n roll,Injecting their raw and
hatefilled rockin Black death Metal bearing influences from early
classics like Venom, Bathory, Discharge, the songs are undoubtly cut
off for live action.

This is not about overproducing, being modern, revolutionary . This
is about the roots, the darkness, the very raw beginnings that made the
scene what it is today. Pure power, anger, hate and catchy songwriting
backed up with an unequalled attitude make up the strength of the titan
TYRANT is bound to become.
ravaging new Polish blast unit, EXIT WOUNDS! No frills, no subtlety, no

school grind that doesn’t veer into noisecore territory, yet is still
completely unhinged, enraged and deranged! 17 explosions of total
grinding savagery mixing the drilling riff attack of Looking For An
Answer, the shattering blast battery of Retaliation, the frantic lunacy
of Cripple Bastards and the earliest razorgrind output of Leng Tch’e

hardcore of Dropdead and Disrupt!!
Exit Wounds infiltrate and evacuate in just ten minutes on this
frenzied assault mission amidst a hail of blastbeats and shrieks of
terror and panic to unload this clusterbomb of lethal grind set for
immediate detonation and maximum casualties, so take cover because the

This CD contains demo material by these two pioneering
Norwegian black metal bands. From Satyricon, we have the three songs
from their second demo, 'The Forest is My Throne', and then a bonus
song called 'The Night of The Triumphator', specially recorded for this
release, and paying tribute to their influences (which means Bathory
and German thrash, going by the sound of the track). Enslaved answer
these selections with the six tracks from their 'Yggdrasil' demo, which
includes material later released on their first album 'Vikingligr
Veldi', but appearing here in much rawer/rougher form. Interesting for
those of you who like to trace a band's evolution all the way back to

CORPUS MORTALE - a new species of deviant

Corpus Mortale was founded in early 1993 by Nicholas Maschøln(drums) and
Søren Jensen(guitar). After some line-up changes Martin Rosendahl(vocals
& bass) joined in Spring 1994. At the time the band was kind of a hobby band,
nevertheless, a demo-tape was recorded in May 1995. The tape received positive
reactions in the underground press, and the band went on with more serious intentions!
After playing a couple of shows, the band recruited a fourth member. Morten Jensen
joined the band early in 1996. Only three months later the band went to the studio,
to record their second demo, the mcd "Integration". This time the band
got even better recognition, and the full pressing of 800 copies was sold out
in 7 months.

The following years (1997-1999) was spent playing shows both in Denmark and Germany,
and composing new material. Søren and Morten grew tired of Corpus Mortale,
and after the crashed album attempt "Spiritism", they decided to leave!
While searching for replacements, Martin and Nicholas continued to write new songs,
and when Brian Eriksen (guitar & vocals) and Jens Lee (guitar) joined in September,
it didn´t take long before the band was ready for the recording of their
final official demo. The mcd "Succumb To The Superior" was recorded
and released, and once again the critics were overwhelming! Loads of good reviews,
interviews and a couple of (unfortunately bad!?!) contract offers.

In the summer of 2001 Jens Lee left the band due to lack of time and dedication.
Just a few months later Roar Christoffersen (guitar) joins in and in December
the label-only "Sombre And Vile"mcd, was conceived! Once more, only
bad contract offers occurred!

In the summer of 2003 Brian was no longer into playing metal no more, he left
a few months later. The year of 2003 was spent shopping the album "With Lewd
Demeanor"! A couple of quite interesting offers slipped right through, but
in the end… in October 2003 the bands signed a contract with Dutch label
Neurotic Records ! The album was released on 23rd of November, just 10 days after
the band had returned from a 12 date European tour.

One of
the heaviest and rawest of classic death metal bands, DISMEMBER are
still at it. Although there is a distinct melodic undertone to their
sound today that was totally absent in the early days, they still
manage to be stalwarts of the classic death metal sound. They are
violent, blazing fast, raw and even (dare I drop a cliche?) brutal.
Yep, brutal. Once upon a time that would have been a given in death
metal but given the state of the scene today it is actually a
noteworthy achievement. To be honest, I have to admit that in the early
90s I was not really sold on the simplistic, bass driven sound of
DISMEMBER and found most of their releases to be good but not stellar.
Well either my tastes have changed or the slight shift in the DISMEMBER
sound has made all the difference because "Hate Campaign" blows my
mind. Music like this is why I got into death metal in the first place
and when it is done this well it is timeless with as much appeal today
as ten years ago. --- In Music We Trust

SOUVENIR'S YOUNG AMERICA - an ocean without water

Lush, shimmering guitar ambience and hypnotic, propulsive instrumental
heaviness wind through the dusty highways and burnt twilight skies of
"An Ocean Without Water," the sophomore album from Richmond's
Souvenir's Young America. Divided into six flowing movements, "An Ocean
Without Water" is filled with intensely beautiful melodies that drift
on lonesome harmonica strains and sparkling, celestial electronics,
shot through with mystic, western slide guitar, passages of crushing
angular riffage, rolling tribal drumming, and transcendent blues.
Through their intricate song arrangements and moody textures,
Souvenir's Young America has created an epic, emotional narrative. The
sound draws from the collected DNA of forebears like Popul Vuh, Earth,
Labradford, and Neurosis, yet they form a powerfully evocative
instrumental language all of their own. Features collaborations with
Aughra (Magic Bullet Records) and Nick Forte (Sublight Records, ex
Rorschach / Beautiful Skin).
The band has developed their sound even further with this new album,
and we couldn't be more stoked over the epic, moody sounds that onfold
over "An Ocean Without Water's" 40 minute running time.

from Italian metal band Illogicist. Featuring plenty of intricate
guitar work and dual harmonies that even might pull in the prog-metal
crowd, Illogicist lay down powerful songs like "Knowledge Curse" and
"Dissonant Perspective" that are chock full of heavy riffs and catchy
melodies. Blazing double bass drums meet complex riff-o-rama on the
angular title track, a tune that also is highlighted by Luca Minieri's
screeching rasps, which may not be for every listener, but seem to fit
the music here. The band even throws in a short but tricky instrumental
titled "Introspection" that shows just how good these players really
are.

--Sea Of Tranquility

VISCERAL BLEEDING - absorbing the disarray

Willowtip/Neurotic

Founded in the late nineties by Peter Persson on Guitar and Niklas
Dewerud behind the Drums to perform what they thought was lacking in
the Swedish death scene. A mixture of raw brutality and technical
skill. With Calle Löfgren on Bass, Dennis Röndum on vocals and Marcus
Nilsson joining in as a solo guitarist they had found the right mixture
to play their extreme metal. The first demo "Internal decomposition"
was recorded at studio Moonshine fall 2000 and received only good
reviews. Chris at Retribute Records picked up on this and decided to
sign the band and release a full-length album with Visceral Bleeding.
The album was called Remnants of Deprivation and was recorded during
three weeks of Nov-Dec 2001 in Pama Studio in Kristianopel and Salt
Island studio in Karlskrona and was released in March 2002. Shortly
after the CD was recorded Niklas unfortunately had to depart from the
band. He didn't feel he had the time and commitment it took to continue
as drummer and wanted to dedicate his time and full attention to job as
bass player in Spawn of Possession.

Tobias "Rottenboy" Persson joined in as drummer shortly after Niklas
departure. After trying out for a wile V.B. decided to take him in as a
permanent member and there by making Visceral Bleeding a complete band
once again.

Remnants of Deprivation received great response from all over
the world and the reviews were overwhelming. Visceral Bleeding was at
this time picked up by Record label Neurotic Records and immediately
started to write, arrange and complete songs for what was going to be
the album "Transcend into Ferocity". Recorded, mixed and mastered by
Visceral Bleeding and Robert Ahrling in studio Flat-pig - Malmö/Sweden
during 3 weeks of Dec-Jan. Released through Neurotic Records in May
2004.

Once again the reviews were overwhelming and Transcend into
Ferocity made sure to establish Visceral Bleeding as one of the most
extreme death metal bands out there.
Following the release, Dennis Röndum decided he could not continue
focusing on two bands without one of them being left behind. Realizing
he could not give 100% to both, he decided to leave Visceral Bleeding
to focus on his main obsession - extreme drumming in one of the most
extreme bands ever to play Death metal: Spawn of Possession.

A replacement was found in Martin Pedersen who immediately
joined in and gave the band a breath of fresh air with his 120%
commitment, ambition and focus on the one goal: to further establish
the name Visceral Bleeding in the scene of extreme death metal.

Touring all across Europe as support band to Re-united
Obituary and as main support to Death metal legends Deicide made sure
to spread the madness and create a devoted fan base. To further
strengthen their position in the genre, the band also did a headlining
tour throughout the UK during spring 2005.

During writing process of album number three Absorbing the
Disarray, lead guitarist Marcus Nilsson decided to take a step back
from the scene and in his place Martin "Germ" Bermheden was introduced
to the band. The album was recorded in June 2006, once again using
Studio FlatPig with Robert Ahrling as technician/producer.

Directly following the recording Calle got married and had a
daughter, he therefore had to take a step back from the band for a
undetermined amount of time, filling his shoes in the band and helping
out with the recording of Absorbing the Disarray was Martin “Body”
Eklöv.

Visceral Bleeding kicked of the new line-up and Album release
with a five week European tour with Skinless / Cryptopsy directly
followed by a four week European tour with Deicide.

Willowtip/Neurotic

Inspired by bands like Suffocation, Pyrexia, Vader and Dying Fetus,
Disavowed was formed in 2000 from the remnants of Nocturnal Silence.
With the goal to write music that is brutal, yet well structured,
technical and catchy, 3 songs were written and recorded soon after
Disavowed formed. The demo CD entitled ‘Point of Few’ resulted in good
responses from all over the deathmetal scene and finally led to a
recording agreement with the American label Unique Leader Records.
In 2001 the first full length CD entitled ‘Perceptive Deception’ was
released, followed by a 5-week tour in the United States and Canada in
2002 and a 4-week European tour in 2003. After a long period of wrist
injuries of the drummer, Robbe V, a temporary replacement was found in
Dirk Janssen of German death metal band Despondency in mid 2005. After
doing numerous regional shows Disavowed headed to Japan for their first
time ever in April 2006.
After that Disavowed, who found a new permanent drummer in Romain
Goulon, performed on several festivals such as Brutal Assault (CZ) and
Mountains Of Death (CH). Soon after the band started to record their
sophomore album entitled "Stagnated Existence" which is scheduled for a
late winter/early spring release through Neurotic Records. The new
album will show the growth of Disavowed musically, without compromising
brutality and aggressiveness.

SICKENING HORROR - when landscapes bled backwards

The first release from Willowtip/Neurotic...

The band was formed on January 2002 by George Antipatis (guitars,
vocals), Ilias Daras (bass) and George Kollias (drums, Nightfall).
After a very short time the band started completing its first songs
which were floating around technical Death Metal forms in the likes of
Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Death and Atheist. After a
year-and-a-half of non-stop rehearsing and killer live shows, the band
recorded the demo “Promo 2003” in the Fall of 2003 which received great
reviews worldwide for its innovative and precise sound. At the time,
the band had George Bokos (Rotting Christ/ex-Nightfall) on the second
guitar, who left after a while due to increased obligations. In the
summer of 2004 George Kollias joined the US death metal band Nile and
recorded “Annihilation of the Wicked” album. By 2005 Sickening Horror
had completed the song-writing of their first album. Meanwhile the
band’s influences had expanded in a wide spectrum which included
experimental black metal bands like Ved Buens Ende, Dodheimsgard, Virus
and jazz-fusion artists like Charlie Parker, Dave Weckl, Virgil Donati.
All these elements filtered by their unique “Sickening Horror” point of
view, in a Death Metal basis, plus many industrial samples and loops
created what is now called “When Landscapes Bled Backwards”. The band’s
debut album was recorded in Athens and mixed by mastermind Neil Kernon.
As for the lyrics, they have to do with quite simple – often personal –
subjects, regarded from a completely strange and surrealistic aspect.
Eventually the band reached to an agreement with Neurotic Records to
unleash “When Landscapes Bled Backwards” in Spring 2007 and everyone
involved in this recording has very high expectations, as the album’s
sound is really fresh and has a vast variety of the deepest, strongest
and darkest emotions..

Unks, formerly of techgrind combo Creation Is Crucifixion, but don't be
expecting grind, or even technicality, this all the way on the other
side of the spectrum. Abject, filthy, pummeling, slow motion noise
drenched doom. A plodding sonic monster, guitars, not just distorted,
but treated and twisted into harsh, skin scraping, caustic slabs of
sinister sound, a low end so thick, it's like dunking your head in a
cement mixer, insane sounding drums, each snare crack like the
recording of a million breaking windows, each kick drum the sound of a
slowed down car wreck. And beneath it all, thick swells of black
ambience, drifting and slithering, pulsing and swelling. A lurching,
stumbling blackened doom dirge behemoth.?
Think?Swans,
Godflesh, Pitchshifter, that sort of machinelike apocalyptic industrial
pound, mixed with some funereal ultra doom a la Moss, Bunkur, etc., but
filtered through a druggy psychedelia, with a minimal shimmery drone
bent, that ends up sounding like a way more?brutal, way more harsh,
tripped out, psychedelic, industrial version of Jesu, that sort of
blissed out sun baked vibe, but as if played by some misanthropic black
metal horde,?harsh blackened vocals, shrieking hysterically and
growling demonically over the relentless amp melting metallic trudge.
Every track is rife with layer after layer of undulating low end. Like

ANTIGAMA / DRUGS OF FAITH - split ep

Antigama from Warsaw, Poland and Drugs Of Faith from Virginia, USA team
up for a split disc inspired by the Napalm Death / Coalesce split, In
Tongues We Speak. Following in the footsteps of that bi-national split
of grindcore and hardcore, Selfmadegod Records from Poland is poised to
release the Antigama / Drugs Of Faith split 3"CD on an eager world
audience.
The three songs representing Antigama's share of the CD are the last
ones that the band is issuing before the awaited Relapse debut
full-length, Resonance. The quartet turns in two original songs packed
full of its trademark sound and a cover of a classic Goblin song.
As for Drugs Of Faith, this power trio delivers three new tracks that
offer a taste of what the upcoming full-length on Selfmadegod may sound
like. The band has new surprises up its sleeve, having churned out
spanking new material for this team up with Antigama that takes its
sound further down the road hinted at with the self-titled mini-album,
both musically and lyrically.
Not content to have two bands from the same obvious genres or sharing
the same influences go head to head on a split, as often happens,
Antigama and Drugs Of Faith's individual sounds play against each
other, resulting in a jolt for the listener as the tracks alternate
between the two bands on Selfmadegod's latest release. The split 3"CD
should be a must for fans of either or both groups. An old hand at
steering grindcore in the studio, Szymon Czech (Nyia, Third Degree,
Antigama), has mastered this double-barrel disc.

Death metal is a genre where a lot of bands sound the same and
originality can be hard to find. New York veterans Immolation have
never had a problem being unique, and their seventh album is no
exception.

Shadows In The Light is a devastating combination of originality
and brutality. While not quite as experimental as their last release,
the songs on this album have complicated and unusual arrangements. The
guitar interplay, dissonant riffs and clever harmonies of Robert Vigna
and Bill Taylor are outstanding, and even though the music is complex,
they never lose sight of the groove.

This album has punishing blast beats galore, but also an ample
supply of catchy hooks. Ross Dolan's vocals are death metal growls,
angry yet understandable. Immolation is one of the more underrated
bands in death metal, and Shadows In The Light is a worthy addition to their impressive catalog of work.
About.com

VITAL REMAINS - icons of evil

Extreme metal titans VITAL REMAINS have returned with a vicious new slab of blasphemy that promises to strike fear in the heart of the masses. The much-anticipated new album, Icons of Evil, was produced by the renowned Erik Rutan (Cannibal Corpse, Goatwhore) and marks the group's second recording with Glen Benton (Deicide) on vocals. Founder Tony Lazaro (guitars) wrote the entire album and handled bass duties for its recording, while Dave Suzuki once again tracked all the drums and lead guitar parts.

Drawing from such classic ‘80s metal bands as Venom, Celtic Frost, Bathory, Mercyful Fate, Sodom and Destruction, VITAL REMAINS based their survival through a DIY underground approach that earned them a rabid legion of fans. Forged from the same evil, early ‘90s death metal meltdown that gave birth to legends like Cannibal Corpse, Deicide and Immolation, the group released their debut, Let Us Pray, to the pleasure of ravenous metalheads everywhere. Then a Rhode Island foursome, they quickly became the talk of the underground, thanks to a three-month North American tour with the legendary revelers in gore, Autopsy.

After signing with Peaceville/Music for Nations in 1994, VITAL REMAINS continued to expand upon their raw, savage sound with their second full-length, Into Cold Darkness. Poor distribution and promotion plagued the band, resulting in a contractual breakup. The French label Osmose Records soon signed the group to a two-album deal, resulting in 1997’s Forever Underground and 2000’s Dawn of the Apocalypse. Both releases saw the band move in a more epic direction, with guitarist Lazaro writing more complex, nuanced songs.

After four full-length releases, the group’s biggest break would come in 2003 as they signed to Century Media and released the genre-defying epic Dechristianize with new vocalist Benton. Crystallizing everything that the band had been working toward on Forever Underground and Dawn of the Apocalypse, it was hailed by critics and fans alike as one of extreme metal’s most accomplished and ambitious works yet. Outburn wrote, “Not enough can be said about how well every piece of the VITAL REMAINS puzzle fits together, perfectly fused to provide a satisfying onslaught of pulverizing demonic mayhem and sacrilegious gratification.?? Metal Maniacs hinted at the band taking a slightly more melodic direction: “The title track imparts a slight tinge of classic metal, as Lazaro and Suzuki rip off leads in tandem.?? Dechristianize’s subtle incorporation of traditional metal leads over the band’s well-established and finely tuned brutality obviously went over well: The album quickly elevated the band into the death metal elite and was supported by four full U.S. tours, further solidifying their status as one of the genre's hardest-working acts.

Never a band to shy from controversy, the group’s latest newsworthy item was several retailers’ reaction to the Icons of Evil cover art. As Lazaro explains, "It is great to see that the cover of our new record has already started some controversy. Some of our distributors saw the artwork and suggested we change it. The record comes out around Easter, and apparently the subject of Christ being nailed to his cross is a bit extra-sensitive around that time. We were told no one would take the CD unless we either changed it or put a slipcase over it. I absolutely refused to change it, but I still wanted our fans to be able to find the album in their local stores, so we ultimately decided to go with the slipcase. I'm still pretty bummed about it, but this was out of my hands.?? Clearly, the band is not afraid of stirring the pot.

VITAL REMAINS continues to bring to the table nothing less than barbaric war metal the way it was meant to be: fast, brutal and tasteful. Icons of Evil boasts 10 tracks of spewed hatred, featuring the most bile lyrics as performed by one of dea
